THE NEW CONTINUOUS AND COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION
(THE NEW ASSESSMENT CRITERIA BY CBSE)

The basic aim of the education system is to prepare the futuristic citizens for a meaningful and productive life in a globalised society. There is a dire need to strengthen the educational system which addresses itself to the heterogeneous group. Evaluation is an indispensable part of the educational process as some form of assessment is necessary to determine the effectiveness of teaching learning processes and their assimilation by learners.
CBSE has introduced the new continuous and comprehensive evaluation system of the learners by strengthening CCE in class IX with effect from October, 2009. This system calls for the holistic evaluation of the taught. The students will be assessed through CCE by the school itself. This strengthened scheme shall be applicable for the second term (october2009 – march2010) of the current academic session in class IX.

The students will be assessed in two ways –

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT

The weightage of the assessments shall be as follows:

PERCENTAGE OF
WEIGHTAGE IN

  • Internal assessment of the first term (if) done by the school would be reduced to 10% + 10% in case of Formative Assessment 1 and Formative Assessment 2. Half yearly (if) conducted by the school would be reduced to 20% (S1 – 20%).
This system of evaluation has been introduced for the over all development of the students. In this, the students will be assessed not only on scholastic areas but also on the Co – scholastic areas of Life skills, attitudes and values, sports and games as well as Co – Curricular activities. The CCE scheme aims at:

  • Holistic evaluation of the students
  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Reducing the dropout rate
  • Emphasis on conceptual clarification through experiential learning
  • Learning in a friendly environment rather than in fearful situation.
  • Preparation of students for life by making them physically fit, mentally alert and emotionally balanced
